Dusty Pflugner

Founder/ Head Basketball Coach

Dusty Pflugner is a 31 year old MBA from Sarasota, FL.  Dusty played basketball collegiately at two esteemed schools, giving him a great sense of what competitive basketball is across the country. Coach Dusty played an integral role in the success of the Virginia Military Institute Keydets and the Lynn University Fighting Knights from 2005-2009 epitomizing the role of the ultimate team player, often nicknamed “The Glue Guy”

Throughout Coach Pflugner’s basketball career, he has trained with and played against hundreds of Division I athletes, dozens of European Professionals, and a handful of NBA players, which include: Reggie Williams, Mike Conley, Harold Jamison, Daequan Cook, Michael Beasley, Cedric Simmons, Jared Jeffries, Terrence Kinsey, Renaldo Balkman, Taurean Green, Joey Graham and Steven Graham.

     -NCAA Division I basketball scholarship 2006-2007 – VMI

     -NCAA Division II basketball scholarship 2007-2009  – LU

Since 2010, Dusty has schooled hundreds of kids to instill the principles he learned while training at the prestigious IMG/Bollettieri Academy in Bradenton, FL. He was instructed by legendary basketball guru’s such as: Mike Moreau, Joe Abunassar, Dan Barto, Chris Ward and Tony Tucker.

As a result of Dusty’s extensive basketball career, he has developed a unique and specialized coaching style, focusing on the fundamentals of basketball while paying close attention to detail and tailoring each workout to the player’s needs.

When asked about his approach to teaching, Coach Dusty responds, “I focus on the Four F’s! Fitness, Fundamentals, Fortitude and Fun! Utilizing this approach, each athlete will work towards maximizing their potential while developing a well-rounded skillset. I know I have developed a protocol to guide athletes of all ages in exploiting the power within them to reach and surpass their individual goals.”

As a coach, Dusty has honed his teaching skills by working one-on-one with student athletes at all levels.  He is currently the Physical Education teacher and Athletic Director at Advent Lutheran Church and School. Coach Dusty has also been running Hoop Pursuits travel basketball program with teams ranging from the elementary to high school levels.

In addition, Coach D has been heading the Advent Lutheran Gators boys and girls basketball program since the start of 2012 successfully juggling 5 school teams at once!

Recently, the Advent Varsity Boys basketball team won the 2015 SFLAA conference championship, back to back SFLAA regional championships in 2014 and 2015, and the 2015 FLAA state championship. In march of 2015 Coach Pflugner took his team to the LBAA National Tournament in Valparaiso, In. where the team earned a bid after a 21-0 start to the season. Advent finished the season ranked #14 of 990 in the country.

3 national tournament appearances (2015, 2016, 2017)

State Runner Up 2017

4 straight regional championships 2014-2017

2 conference championships (2015, 2017)

Coach Dusty was also the lead coach for the Trinity Lutheran School boys varsity basketball team from 2010-2012.

In 2013, Coach Dusty (along with the assistance of Coach Dave Franklin) founded the Hoop Pursuits D league @ Advent Lutheran School. The league is designed to give players an opportunity to have fun, develop skills, and prepare them for future basketball endeavors (Travel or school teams)

Earlier in Coach Pflugner’s career he volunteered his time coaching and refereeing with local Boca Raton city leagues including: Boca Hoops, West Boca Basketball and Upward Bound.

Dusty’s coaching method combines the guiding principles and strategies he learned as a player, trainer and coach.

Dusty holds two certificates in the State of Florida, a temporary teaching certificate for business, grades 6-12 and an athletic coaching certificate.  He uses both throughout Palm Beach County, teaching and coaching full time.

David Franklin has been coaching youth sports from the beginner up through the collegiate level for the past 20 years.  He is particularly passionate about basketball and helping students achieve their dreams both on and off the court.  David is the only coach to ever lead a middle school, high school, and girls team to a championship at the Schroon Lake National Basketball Invitational in New York.  David has coached and trained 7 Division 1 basketball players including 1 who went on to the NBA.

Coach Franklin played a pivotal role in the success the Advent Lutheran basketball program has achieved in recent years as the lead Assistant Coach dating back 2013

Pastor Dave has been doing student ministry for 20 years now. Through the years he has had opportunities to speak to thousands of students at conferences and retreats,  to work with youth pastors from across the country, and to preach in churches big and small.

Dave Franklin is currently going into his 3rd school year as the Next Generation Pastor at Advent Lutheran Church.
